We may often find ourselves doing things that feel insignificant. Sometimes it may make us feel as if we need to do better and greater things in order to be significant. I can reflect back and realize there have been days, even seasons, where I felt like everything I was doing was insignificant. I’d just be doing my best to be present with people throughout the day while keeping up with my laundry and dishes, while it seems like others are out rocking the world awake. I have had the tendency to hide my weaknesses, the parts of me that I despise, in order to be seen as strong and significant.
1 Corinthians 1:28-29 recenters us, from looking inward to looking at the power of God.

The truth is that our works are insignificant without the hand of God, and it’s not significance that we should be searching for. When we search for what we think are great, big things to be a powerful presence in the world, we miss out on watching God’s power at work. When we strive to be perfect and hide the broken, we miss out on watching God work His strength through our weaknesses. It’s not about us—about how impactful and perfect we can be—it’s about how powerful and perfect God Himself is, and we just have the great blessing of living as His children! 1 Corinthians 1:30-31 tells us that we have nothing to boast about, and why would we ever try to change that when we can boast in the Lord all day long?
Only our good, good God would take the insignificant and the broken, and turn it all into something beautiful.
In Christ Jesus, we are treasured sons and daughters of the King and that is where we find our purpose—never in the things we accomplish. His love and grace are the reasons why we get to live in His freedom and joy! We can see our brokenness and our seemingly insignificant works as opportunities to watch God reveal more and more of His power and grace. With our eyes opened, we can see how many of the things that seem insignificant—like paying a little extra attention to someone—open up opportunities for the Lord to do great things.
May we rest in the worth and value we have as sons and daughters of the King.
May we see our seemingly insignificant works as opportunities to witness God’s hand at work.
May we see our weaknesses as opportunities for God’s power and perfection to shine.
