God’s Word is—
John 17:17 - Truth
Matthew 24:35 - Eternal
2 Timothy 3:16-17 - Good for teaching
Hebrews 4:12 - Alive and Active
Psalm 19:7 - Renewing
Psalm 19:10 - Sweet
God’s Word is one of our greatest gifts.

I’ve been a Christian since I was a little girl. My parents took me to church and taught me about Jesus, but it wasn’t until I was much older that I began to love the Word of God myself. I always knew Jesus is my Savior, but I didn’t know the depth and beauty of the full story because I rarely picked it up to read it myself until I was in my first year of college. If I’m being honest, the words on the pages of the Bible intimidated me. Outside of the comfort of my home while away at college, I began to feel more lonely in my faith. I picked up my Bible because I was hungry for the presence of God and the truth of who He really is. Reading the Bible changed my relationship with God, and I finally began to grasp a deeper understanding of His glory, His love, and who He has created me to be. Through the words on the pages and the Spirit of God at work, my whole world changed forever.
Wherever you are at in your relationship with God, I want to encourage you to open the Word. Maybe you’ve read the Bible plenty, but it’s more of a checklist item than something you find joy in. Or maybe, you listen to all the podcasts, sermons and Instagram reels (which can be great!), but you have been too intimidated by the Bible to read it for yourself just like I was. Or possibly, you long to have a hunger for the Word that you once had at another time in your life. Maybe you’re reading this, and you’ve never even held a Bible in your hands! Friend, God wants to spend time with you and speak life, truth, joy and love into your heart and mind. He wants to bring you near to Him and show you who He is, all that He has done and will do, and remind you of who you are in Him. God is good, and the Bible holds the most precious words you will ever read.
One of the most important things to remember is the purpose—to seek God. We don’t read the Bible as a self-help book, trying to become better people. We dive into the Word so that we may grow closer to God and learn more about who He is, all that He has done and will do, and be transformed by the truth. Turning your heart posture toward God and His Kingdom will change the way you read the words on the pages.
Always pray to thank God and ask Him to teach you and speak to you. The Old Testament and the New Testament can both be great places to go. When I first started really diving into the Word, having a Bible study and some tools really helped me, and still do! Two ministries that I dearly love are She Reads Truth and The Daily Grace Company. If you just don’t know where to start, I’d seriously love to have a conversation with you. <3
