Coming out of a longer waiting season and one of the most challenging for me - The Lord has placed some words on my heart to share and I pray they are an encouragement for you today :)
We all experience seasons of our lives where we are “waiting” on the Lord. We are waiting for something to fall into place, for something to speed up, for a prayer to be answered, for what is next, etc. No matter what that may look like for you, I’m sure you can pinpoint at least one thing in your life that you are “waiting” on right now. In this specific season for me, it was my first post college job.
Looking back on this season in particular, there was a lot that the Lord brought to light and revealed to me. One of those being - we will always be waiting on something. That thing that may have popped in your head will at some point be answered, will fade away, or maybe you will get distracted by something else you’re waiting for, in reality - we are always waiting on something and after whatever that may be has passed, it will be something else. Being in the thick of these seasons is challenging, especially when the fear of the unknown and confusion comes in. But, God purposely puts us into situations that we cannot control to mold us more into who He has called us to be while strengthening our dependence on Him. What’s confusing to you and I, is not confusing to Him. Our surprises don’t surprise Him. Our mysteries are not mysterious to Him. One of the scriptures I held onto during this time and is one of my most favorite is Ephesians 3:20 - “Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us..” He has so much more for us than we could ever think of or imagine ourselves.
No waiting time with Him is wasted time. There is a greater purpose around where He has you… & I urge you to not miss out on what He is trying to show you because you are too ready to move out of the waiting season you are in. Press in & listen to what He is teaching you, because I can assure you - He is at work & in complete charge of all the unknown.
During this longer season of waiting I was challenged by my mentor to pick a word for the year to focus on and pray into. After praying and asking the Lord to reveal a word to me it was that next morning that He made my word very clear. I had written out a prayer to myself and stuck it in my Bible next to the passage that I had gone back to over and over and over again during the past 8 months. The prayer I wrote to myself and left next to the passage had the word remember underlined multiple times. I chose this word to be my word for the year and God has already used it in the most beautiful ways and has been teaching me how to walk more in it daily. This was the prayer I had written out;
“Jesus,
I pray this passage over this season. I pray my heart clings to this scripture and it echoes through my mind. Help me remember your faithfulness in my life. Help me remember what you have delivered me from. Help me remember to seek your kingdom first. Deuteronomy 8:2 'Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep His commands'
His humbling is helping you.
His humbling is pruning you.
His humbling is growing your dependence on Him.
Lord Jesus — Help me remember.”
We often forget what He has brought us out of and what He has done in our lives. We forget about the truth of who God says He is in scripture. We forget His faithfulness. We forget that we are walking in so many answered prayers right in the very moment we are in. We easily lose sight of all of the blessings in our life that He has so graciously gifted us. It’s much easier to forget these things and move to what’s next, but I urge you to think for a moment about all He has done in your beautiful life - the truth that He gives us in scripture may be the greatest place of remembrance.
I can’t help but pray this word over my day every single morning because it has truly shifted my perspective - Remembering what He has done and is doing in our lives daily helps us have a heart posture of gratitude and rest in His presence. The breath in our lungs alone is an answered prayer.
I encourage you to turn your waiting mentality into a believing one, I pray that you pause and
